APEX - Inspire. Create. Achieve.
If our American way of life fails the child, it fails us all. -- Pearl S. Buck

Dear Friend of APEX,

On behalf of the staff, volunteers and Board of Directors of APEX (Asian Professional Extension, Inc.), I am writing you to ask you to play a crucial role in the lives of youth. We recognize that today, there are many pressing matters in our world, yet, the urgency of preparing our youth for the challenges of the future is more critical now than ever.

APEX is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering disadvantaged Asian American youth in New York City through a combination of one-to-one mentoring relationships and educational programs. In New York City, 17% of Asian American youth drop-out of school.1 However, through the generous support of individuals like you, APEX has been making a difference and developing future leaders

What have we achieved together? Here's what our students say...
"I would describe my relationship with my mentor as someone I can look up to. She really embraces her strengths, puts her best effort to her goals, and strives to succeed. Coming from a relatively small and a first generation Chinese family, it was hard for me to meet people that really influenced me. My mentor is an Asian American, and showed me that even if you're small and short, and a minority, you can still achieve something really big." — Mentee

"My favorite part of the Saturday math class was everything because every time I need[ed] help, Karl [my APEX tutor] helped me." — 4th Grade Student

"When I immigrated to the U.S. in 2000, I could hardly speak English. Having a mentor helped me integrate into American society." — Mentee

Highlights of 2009 alumni include:
  • Three program graduates attending Barnard College on scholarships.
  • A mentee who, as a 8th grader failed all of his classes and exhibited violent behavior, turned his life around after five years with his mentor, and received a full scholarship to study architecture.
  • A new immigrant youth, who had been in the United States only six months, enrolled in APEX, and with intensive participation in our programs— High School Mentoring, Public Speaking, and College Prep— for 18 months, received a full scholarship from Baruch College.
Please join us; invest in their future. By making a tax deductible contribution of any amount, you will assure that we can provide the quality youth services that have been the hallmark of APEX for the past eighteen years.
