Hearing the Voices of Asian American Youth: Professional Development Workshop for Educators in New York City
Wednesday, 11/04/2009
On November 3, 2009 APEX presented a professional development workshop for guidance counselors, teachers, parent coordinators, and school administrators about the particular challenges Asian American youth face in schools, particularly new immigrants from low income urban settings. Held at CUNY's Asian American Research Institute (AARI) over forty NYC educators built their knowledge of the Asian American population and gained tools and strategies to effectively work with Asian American students to support their personal and academic success. This workshop included a presentation by Jack Tchen, professor at New York University and director of NYU's Asian/Pacific/American Institute. Participants also received information about APEX’s unique programming to support the healthy development of Asian American youth.
